CARE Canada employs Open Text’s Livelink for new e-community

CARE Canada, a member of CARE International, one of the world's largest non-governmental development organizations (NGO), is using A HREF="http://www.opentext.com">Open Text’s Livelink as part of its e-glue initiative.

Livelink was initially implemented by CARE and Information to Knowledge (i2K) to establish the organization’s first globally based Intranet, enabling international aid agencies access to best practices during relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Mitch.

Emerging from the ground-breaking work of i2K, “e-glue” (which is best explained by for global linkages and universal empowerment) will use Livelink to create an e-community of development and relief organizations, enabling them to collaborate on projects, and share experiences and resources.

Livelink is a scaleable e-business application that includes virtual team collaboration, business process automation, enterprise group scheduling and information retrieval services. “Livelink has significantly improved the relief efforts and quality of work of NGOs in Third World countries," said Gerard van der Burg, director of i2K. “By extending Livelink to the e-glue initiative, CARE is able to communicate and identify issues in global development and coordinate response, leading to change on a much larger scale.”

Says Andrew Pery, VP of global marketing for Open Text “CARE is leading the way in leveraging technology to improve relief efforts in the Third World. “The creation of an e-community enables the globally dispersed development and disaster relief organizations to share ideas, collaborate on projects and improve overall response time to crisis situations.”
