2025 The KMWorld AI 100: The Companies Empowering Intelligent Knowledge Management

Article Featured Image

Attention to AI technologies, including generative AI and agentic AI, has escalated significantly since we expanded our list to 100 companies last year. It seems almost intuitively obvious to say there’s been a revolutionary transformation in KM, driven by and pushed into due to AI technologies. On the one hand, modern enterprises are increasingly adopting AI-powered solutions to organize, retrieve, and leverage their collective knowledge assets. These technologies are reshaping how organizations handle information flows, support decision making, and preserve institutional knowledge. On the other, the accelerating pace of AI development makes careful analysis and evaluation challenging. Which AI implementation will deliver genuine value is the critical question.

KM is no stranger to adopting new technologies. The understanding, however, that technology is not, in and of itself, the answer to all knowledge access, sharing, and usage concerns is crucial. The people aspects of KM, embodied in the notion of communities of practice, complement technology. As AI adapts and learns, its value to KM becomes more apparent. AI offers remarkable capabilities to avoid data silos, improve search relevance, handle multimodal information sources, and uncover knowledge hidden in large, complex data stores.

AI Powers Innovation

Innovations in AI technology result in concomitant innovations in KM, resulting in greater personalized knowledge delivery, enhanced decision making, and better customer relations. AI allows for automated knowledge capture from unstructured sources such as meetings, emails, and phone conversations. Self-updating knowledgebases continuously incorporate new information and initiate version control. AI support for onboarding activities results in better-informed, more efficient, and happier employees. AI assistants are proliferating throughout organizations, saving time and money.

This issue’s presentation of the KMWorld AI 100: The Companies Adopting AI Technologies to Further KM intends to focus attention on the innovative vendors that are infusing their offerings with AI and related technologies. These companies represent the vanguard of innovation in AI-powered KM. They present pioneering solutions that not only address long-standing challenges in organizing and accessing organizational knowledge but that are fundamentally changing how enterprises conceptualize knowledge as a strategic asset. We invite you to explore the companies on this list to understand why they stand out. We also have the AI Trailblazer section in which executives of these organizations explain the value of their intelligent approaches.
