KMWorld 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management 2020

Knowledge management software and services providers are embracing a fresh wave of technological innovation. It’s necessary because—among both customers and employees—there is a heightened expectation that the right information will be delivered to the right people at the right time.

The annual list of 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management reflects the urgency felt among many organizations to provide a timely flow of targeted information. Among the more prominent initiatives is the use of AI and cognitive computing, as well as related capabilities such as machine learning, natural language processing, and text analytics. Despite this emphasis, however, there is also an understanding that the use of automation in products and services does not replace but instead augments and enhances human capabilities.

Another notable push is on knowledge graphs as an approach to go beyond the data and shed light on relationships among people, places, and processes. In addition, many companies are continuing to expand cloud services to ease the burden of collecting and organizing information.

In selecting organizations for the list each year, we look for companies that are innovative in advancing their products and capabilities to meet changing customer requirements—whether they are using the newest technologies available or continuing with proven, tried-and-true approaches.

The list includes a broad range of knowledge management companies focused on areas such as analytics, collaboration, content management and services, customer and employee experience, workflow, and document management. To arrive at this list, we reflect on how companies have succeeded in helping customers solve business problems, and also consider information gained from product launches and updates, research reports and white papers, and presentations at the annual KMWorld conference.
