Knowledge XChanger from Comintell

Comintell has released Knowledge XChanger, which it claims offers a full complement of knowledge management solutions. Knowledge XChanger is Web-based and allows workers to manage, classify, publish, search, monitor, share, track, measure, report, profile and view internal and external content.

The company goes on to say that because all functions are thus integrated, Knowledge XChanger makes it possible to track the flow of knowledge in an organization by distributing activity points to each user based on how they are using the system. Comintell Knowledge XChanger runs on Windows NT or Unix servers and Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle databases. It requires only standard Web browsers for users.

The software is available in three different versions.

In XChanger Standard, content is stored and managed in XML format in the Knowledge XChanger database. All content, regardless of origin and format, is meta-tagged and, thereby, can be easily navigated, the company says. It can then be both automatically and manually classified, and Knowledge XChanger will dynamically publish documents on the Web, where only authorized recipients can view them.

Search and retrieve is accomplished in three ways: by free-text searching (with an embedded search engine from Verity), by browsing topics and by Java-based, directory-style browsing.

Knowledge XChanger Advanced further includes a discussion forum in which comments can be added to any content item in the database through threaded discussions. And, when users subscribe to topics, they can be notified immediately by e-mail when the information is updated. An expert-finder function is also offered that permits creation of a self-maintained directory of knowledge areas, in which users register their competencies, allowing users to find the best human expertise available on a specific subject.

The advanced version further offers external content retrieval through pre-defined gateways to major news feeds. This content can be automatically retrieved and structured according to the same topics as the user’s internal content. Other content feeds can also be included.

In Knowledge XChanger Enterprise, users can rate both qualitatively and quantitatively. The enterprise version also allows them to quickly create structured company and country profiles according to templates. Another features allows reports of different types to be generated into, for example, MS Office applications.
