How to Drive a Learning and Collaboration Culture in Your Organization

Produced by Steve Nathans-Kelly

At KMWorld 2022, TechnipFMC’s Kim Glover and Tamara Viles stressed the importance of creating a learning culture within knowledge management throughout the organization.

Glover and Viles compared knowledge management and learning to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

“The time from launch to business value can decrease so you can get to where you want to go quickly, just like making a peanut butter and jelly,” Glover said.

When putting learning and KM together there is a diversity of learning modalities which can fit the individual and their own learning needs as well as the organization and the collective learning needs.

Just like a PBJ it’s also portable, Glover said, learning and KM together have an agility that you don’t necessarily have with traditional learning.

“By offering different modalities of learning, studies have shown that it increases retention of the knowledge that you’ve learned. So just like a PBJ is ‘stick to your ribs’ kind of food, learning and KM is ‘stick to your brain’ kind of knowledge,” Viles said.

Driving a learning and collaboration culture at the team and individual levels starts with a portfolio of tools and solutions designed to enable employees across the globe to collaborate, share their knowledge and learn from each other. It’s important to facilitate a learning culture in which we thrive and realize possibilities as people and as a business.
