Get Caught Up with the Artificial Intelligence Basics

Artificial Intelligence may be the next big thing but according to CMO.com, only 15% of enterprises are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) right now.

For many organizations, AI still seems untouchable, conjuring up images of complex sci-fi scenarios. But, in reality, it is surprisingly straightforward to implement and to use in day-to-day business operations.

KMWorld recently held a webinar with Alan Pelz-Sharpe, founder, Deep Analysis, and Christopher Wynder, product marketing, OpenText, who discussed how to incorporate AI into day-to-day information management practices, practical applications of AI and best practices for a successful implementation, and more.

Pelz-Sharpe outlined several guidelines to consider when approaching AI for the business:

  • Your understanding of your processes, operations and requirements are key to AI success
  • You do need some fundamental understanding of the difference between different AI tools and approaches to select the right one for your needs
  •  You do not need to understand the math behind the algorithms
  • You do need a simple to use, implement and manage AI tool

Augmenting existing technologies and processes with machine learning is the first step, Pelz-Sharpe explained.Machine Learning & AI may be highly complex under the covers but are in fact surprisingly straightforward to implement.  ML learns over time - it improves not degrades (like traditional systems).

A simple targeted start can be effective and up and running quickly - but its also the foundation for future expansion and growth.

Wynder recommended OpenText’s AI-augmented capture as a solution that can help businesses that are struggling to implement AI.

The solution offers:

  • Sort based on classification
  • Text extraction for use in other systems
  • APIs
  • Image clean-up
  • Optical Character Recognition
  • Index creation
  • Classification
  • Capture Workflow
  • Machine learning for classification
  • Machine learning for workflow
  • Handwriting recognition
