KMWorld 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management 2026

Article Featured Image

The number 100 has some magical qualities to it. As we were compiling this year’s list of 100 companies to watch in the KM space, Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 100th birthday. That’s an achievement in itself, but what is truly remarkable about him is what a young 100 he is. He’s still dancing, still singing, and although not quite as limber as he was, he still has some great moves. From many perspectives, including knowledge management, he’s a role model for longevity.

KMWorld magazine is far from hitting the 100-years-in-business mark. Companies on our 100 list are also nowhere near being in business for 100 years. But what they do have to remain vibrant contributors to the KM space is agility. User expectations of instant access to pertinent information dictate that companies find technology to meet those expectations. The introduction of generative AI (GenAI) has created an ongoing upheaval, not only in KM, but also in many other aspects of business operations, along with life outside of work. The many different formats in which knowledge exists that can now be surfaced and the varying channels used both internally and externally present enormous opportunities to share knowledge, but they come with some challenges.

Challenges involve security risks, the need for adequate information governance, and the possibility that GenAI will produce incorrect information. KM companies to watch are those that know the difference between hype and gaining real-world benefits from AI, that blend the human with the tech, and that understand the best approaches to knowledge sharing that result in excellent outcomes for their customers.

New technologies spur innovation, without which companies will not thrive. Organizations on this list have proven themselves to be adept at pivoting to adopt the elements of AI-driven technologies that advance the business and to discard those that don’t. One key point of technology in KM is that it’s not evenly distributed.

Companies can’t all achieve the longevity of Dick Van Dyke, but they can strive to emulate his ability to be flexible, to change with the times, and to persevere. Companies on this list are wonderful examples of how their products expand the power of KM in changing knowledge environments. They stand out in the KM field, and we applaud their accomplishments. As always, the list is meant to generate interest and to spark discussion. Let us know what you think, and alert us to anything we might have missed.
