Updates to CAST Imaging forward streamlined processes and advanced search for understanding applications

CAST, the global leader in software intelligence technology, is unveiling the winter release of CAST Imaging, the living knowledgebase for understanding the inner workings of software applications. The latest release features innovations in simplicity, process acceleration, search, mapping, and various user experience (UX) enhancements.

CAST Imaging automatically understands an enterprise’s software application, mapping its code elements and relationships within a knowledgebase that depicts the internal infrastructure. This visualization tool helps developers and engineers rapidly understand the intricacies of their software apps, enhancing their overall productivity and time-to-innovation.

With the winter update, CAST introduces advanced filtering options that help engineers navigate challenges associated with security, error handling, and performance efficiency. The latest iteration of CAST Imaging also introduces crucial impact analysis, which sheds light on the consequences of UI and database table changes, in addition to a context menu overhaul.

Each of these updates works to propel engineers to develop, maintain, and modernize complex software apps with both simplicity and speed, according to the company.

"This important update is all about making it easier and faster for engineers to find the answers they need when changing existing applications, whether as part of ongoing maintenance or a massive modernization effort." said CAST Imaging vice president Luc Perard. "It’s all about enabling them to act faster and with greater confidence as they navigate the internal complexities of the applications."

CAST Imaging’s visualizations now also surface the dependencies between applications, offering filters for dependencies based on languages, frameworks, and database engines. The process of manually understanding breakages in cross-application dependencies comes with significant delays; CAST Imaging now accelerates this process from months to an instant, according to the company.

CAST Imaging’s automated advice feature that increases the speed of and de-risks app modernization and cloud migration—dubbed Advisors—now executes 50% more checks for mainframe-to-AWS migrations. The update also comes with a new database migration Advisor for organizations moving from DB2 to MySQL.
