Making the Web safe for intellectual property

IDDEX, with the support of KPMG is launching a new intellectual property Web site that will allow companies and individuals to register and manage their patents, trademarks and other intangible assets. CertCo will apply its public key infrastructure (PKI) architecture and comprehensive PKI consulting services to design a secure, scalable site. KPMG and IDDEX expect the site will help users maximize the value realized from their intellectual property by bringing together all parties involved in the development, management and exploitation of these assets.

For the IDDEX site, CertCo is developing a framework to manage identity and authority issues for registered users. Its CertAuthority software will provide digital credentials for users posting their intellectual property to the site, while CertCo's CertValidator software will be used to authenticate the identity and authority of all registered users of the site. This will enable parties doing business on the site to obtain proof of the other party's identity, as well as assurance that the party has the ability to perform the transaction in question. CertCo's industry standards-based technology will ensure interoperability.

One unique element of the “digital identity” backbone being developed by CertCo is a set of rules embodied in CertCo's patented Multi-step Signing process that will safeguard issues of confidentiality and prevent unauthorized access to high-value intellectual property. The CertAuthority software uses fragmented signing keys and multi-step approval processes to provide an extreme level of security and protection.

In other CertCo news, the company appointed three new executives to drive its operations, business development and engineering functions. Catherine MacArthur was named CertCo's chief administrative officer, Michael Seppi will serve as the company's vice president of business development, and Dan Carey joins as vice president of engineering.
