Many of the documents from a Google search on “Next Generation KM” were written before 2010. More recent items mention topics such as big data, AI, cloud, and mobile. But none address what is most important to business leaders: capturing business value, quickly finding information or experts who can help, accelerating learning, engaging a remote workforce, or shaping sharing behaviors to keep knowledge from walking away.

After testing several new technologies with SharePoint, Jeff Stemke, president, Stemke Consulting Group, showed how using graphical mental models can increase knowledge flow, find content or experts in one click, and accelerate learning while capturing extraordinary business value during his KMWorld Connect 2021 presentation, “Next-Gen SharePoint Knowledge Network Platform.”

“SharePoint we know is a great tool for document management,” Stemke said.

However, KM in SharePoint is a bit more complicated, he said. So, he created a Visual-KnowHow for SharePoint that enables users to:

  • Find Information or Experts who can help in ONE CLICK
  • Use efficient, responsive forms w/cascading dropdown menus
  • Content Type: Q&A, Expertise, Lesson Learned, Profile, more…
  • Captures real-time business value metrics
  • Reinforces sharing behaviors, accelerates competency
  • Corporate-wide skills directory model
  • Site template (wsp) fully configured for unlimited use
  • Easy setup without IT support for SP Online and Server

The solution lies on a knowledge map that is built from KM network main topics, he explained. It is a fully-functional SharePoint KM Network site template incorporating next-gen features provides an excellent way to quickly capture and transfer expertise and accelerate workforce performance.

It also captures extraordinary business value to meet leadership business goals. KM processes and tools are necessary but not sufficient. You need to reinforce behaviors for seeking, sharing and re-using knowledge. Risks of knowledge loss are increasing but can be mitigated. SharePoint can provide functionality for a world class KM Network.

KMWorld Connect 2021 is going on this week, November 15 -18, with workshops on Friday, November 19. On-demand replays of sessions will be available for a limited time to registered attendees and many presenters are also making their slide decks available through the conference portal.
