Healthier content delivery

Employees at Shands Healthcare will have better access to medical and financial information following installation of a new enterprise content management system. The not-for-profit health system, affiliated with the University of Florida, wanted to improve the delivery of content to its doctors, nurses, administrators, clinical managers and department heads.

The new solution, Systemware Content Suite, will provide employees with a cross-platform, scalable content repository for dealing with complicated document and records management requirements. Shands consists of eight hospitals and more than 80 outpatient clinical practices in north Florida.

Brad Kowal, assistant director of the Information Services data center with Shands, says, "When searching for a content management solution, we were looking for an open systems architecture distributed system that would support our Oracle strategy, as well as improve data capture and provide a scalable solution allowing secure access to all types of content. We selected [this] solution due to its ease of migration from our current mainframe content storage architecture to our open systems architecture strategy, while also gaining the ability to archive, retrieve and integrate any type of content from any platform."

The solution provides Shands with a single content and document repository to manage all types of content. By delivering information quickly to support clinical administrative support interactions, the new system will allow Shands to optimize use of its existing technology while improving patient care, Systemware reports in a recent news release.
