Embracing the new world of enterprise content management

Good content management plays a pivotal role in an organization's ability to manage input and output of information and can make the difference in whether the company understands its content value, or whether it's lost in the weeds.

KMWorld held a webinar with Sean Baird, director of product marketing, Hyland – Alfresco; Kurt Thies, VP and product evangelist, Access; and Harvey Gross, VP of product marketing, Crawford Technologies Inc., who discussed the impact of cloud native content services, digital transformation, AI, and process automation on helping enterprises find ways to reconstruct their ECM programs so that information does not go to waste.

According to Baird, it takes an average of 52 minutes to search for information and companies report an average of 9 different solutions. The majority of organizations see the potential for AI, however, 60% of people within those organizations believe they lack the skills to capitalize on AI.

The rise of modern, cloud-native Content Services Platforms offer a new approach, Baird said. Intelligent content starts with data. That data within the organization needs to be readily accessible, contextual, available anywhere, and governed and secure. AI can understand content and data as well as a knowledgeable human, but at scale, he explained.

Silos continue to impact productivity, according to Gross. Organizations that rely on ECM, CSP and CCM solutions need to ask themselves a set of questions to decide if their current implementation will deliver the functionality and extensibility needed to improve customer experiences.

Must Haves for High-Performance CCM Storage and archiving include:

  • Integration
  • Open Standards
  • Agility
  • Compatibility
  • Reach
  • High Speed
  • Document Quality
  • Exceptional Performance
  • Flexibility
  • Deployment

The pandemic and the move to remote work is the primary driver of digitizing services, Thies said. Hybrid physical and digital spaces require an understanding of InfoSec, technology, regulatory requirements and change management.

He recommended several tips for this digitization including:

  • Optimize your staff, productivity, and real estate
  • Support hybrid and remote work environments
  • Don't default to old practices
  • Drive organizational and cultural change through digital transformation
  • Why digitize things you'll never need to access?
