KMWorld 2023 sees a sea change

Another relatively new contribution was the emergence of the phrase “knowledge capital.” The recognition of the importance of knowledge and information as a critical and important organizational resource is hardly new. However, the emphasis upon scouring it specifically for new opportunities, and making that a routine procedure, as presented by Deloitte’s Eyal Cahana in his keynote presentation, was a refreshing reminder not to take that resource for granted.

One presentation that did offer a genuinely GenAI product, with a thorough analysis, came from Access Innovations’ Margie Hlava and Heather Kotula. The pair compared a Chat GPT-4 created taxonomy with a traditional intellectually derived taxonomy and concluded that, while the traditional taxonomy was more logically consistent, the Chat GPT-4 was clearly in the range of utilitarian and comparable.

In summary, KMWorld 2023 was the year of the sea change. To give credit where credit is due, SearchBlox’s John Lewis in his keynote presentation recognized the singularity of the situation and concluded, “Never before has there been such a year.” Those of us who attended will long remember KMWorld 2023.
