AI 50 Trailblazer: Enterprise Knowledge - It is Time to Make Real Progress on Your AI Journey

At Enterprise Knowledge (EK), we’ve been discussing the growing intersection between Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Management for years. The broader industry has now picked up on this through independent surveys of leading organizations. McKinsey’s study found that the lack of foundational knowledge to enable AI is seen as the primary reason why only a few organizations are able to advance AI solutions at scale. Meanwhile, Gartner’s research predicts that global business spending on AI will grow by 21.3% to reach $62.5bn next year, with knowledge management solutions representing the largest portion at $7.2bn in 2022.

In short, effective KM programs are a key enabler of AI. Without information structure, knowledge capture and sharing processes, and long-term governance over content, AI will fail. Good KM enables AI, and AI in turn can be an enabler of KM.

The most effective organizations recognize this and are able to improve their KM systems while leveraging them to achieve Enterprise AI capabilities. This means developing a rich knowledge fabric layer (through knowledge graphs) to be able to discover, infer, recommend, and predict information in the ways that people think about and describe data.

We are working with organizations at every stage of their journeys, from initial strategy and business case, through design and piloting, to enterprise-wide transformations and operations. We’ve achieved unmatched success for our clients in this because we recognize the mutual dependencies of KM and AI and can harness them for our clients.
