How to Prepare Your Teams for Remote Work

Daniel Rasmus, principal analyst, Serious Insights, made the case for collaboration technology in the shift to remote work during his presentation at KMWorld Connect 2020. 

"Think about what tools you're going to use," Rasmus said. "There are lots and lots of tools really look at that simplify the number of tools, because you want to avoid confusion wherever you can and adopt automated scheduling techniques."

Internal intranets are a good place to start. For example, Limeade is an employee experience software company that helps build great places to work. The organization offers well-being, engagement and inclusion solutions that include industry-leading communications capabilities.

According to Rasmus, companies need to look inward and consider the following questions when switching to remote work in order to support employees: How are you measuring what people are doing? What does success look like for the organization? Are you letting people take the time that they need for themselves to figure out what's going to work for them to meet their goals, rather than dictating what the timeframes are, advice, and security needs? 

"You have to give people permission to not be online all the time, and then think about the processes, how do we support the tools and reward good collaborations?" he said. 

A variety of collaboration and automatic scheduling solutions exist such as Microsoft Teams or Slack for collaboration, Calendly for scheduling appointments, Zoom or Google Meets for video conferencing, and more.
