Data Visualization Demo: Creating Mind Maps with FreeMind

Video produced by Steve Nathans-Kelly

Ron Arons, president, LegalDataViz, explained how mind maps work, and walked users through mind map creation in the freeware tool FreeMind at KMWorld Connect 2020.

A mind map is one kind of data visualization tool, he explained, it's a structured radial outlining tool. It starts in the center with a central theme and expands outwards. Mind maps and concept maps/network graphs are used for brain storming, laying out unstructured data, and timelines.

"It's one of the oldest tools out there it's free. It runs on PCs and Macs as well as Linux machines," Arons said. If users want to use something like this on other devices, like an Android phone or Android tablet or an iPhone or iPad there's another tool called simple mind, which actually works with FreeMind files and works functionally just about the same ways.
