Pegasystems Adds New Connectors to Improve Exchange of Electronic Health Records

Pegasystems, a provider of applications for marketing, sales, service, and operations, has announced the availability of new connectors that allow healthcare payers and providers to adopt the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards framework for exchanging patient information.

With the line of new connectors, dubbed “Pega FHIR APIs,” the company says, payers and providers can improve data integration and securely gain access to valuable patient information for better service and care.

Many healthcare organizations are challenged to overcome organizational silos which prevent them from having full visibility into patients' data, said Susan Taylor, vice president and business line leader, healthcare, Pegasystems. With the new connectors, she noted, Pega clients can benefit from a broader ecosystem of information that can help drive better health, administrative, and financial outcomes.

FHIR, created by Health Level Seven International (HL7), helps connect disparate systems with a common standard in order to break down the data silos that can increase costs and decrease patient satisfaction.

According to PEGA, its FHIR APIs provide an out-of-the-box solution that integrates FHIR-compatible applications from a variety of vendors with Pega healthcare applications. Once Pega FHIR APIs are installed and configured, users are able to gain access to patient data without the manually creating integrations.

Pega FHIR APIs are available now for download on the Pega Exchange. Additional information on Pega's healthcare solutions can be found at www.pega.com/industries/healthcare.
