Using enterprise search to provide a strategic advantage

Today, speed to relevant information is critical for daily business, especially for teams managing sensitive work product or legal information. Speed to insights beyond text-based search and results, however, gives organizations the competitive advantage.

By connecting disparate data sources with a modern AI-powered KM solution, organizations can rapidly identify and extrapolate information from all their documents and systems, increasing their strategic advantage.

KMWorld recently held a webinar featuring Simon Price, VP sales legal tech, OpenText; Mike Patton, senior director professional services, OpenText; Kirk Scruggs, CIO, Bracewell; and Lisa Gianakos, ALPM director, practice technology solutions, Pillsbury, Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, who discussed how they are using OpenText Decisiv, a modern KM solution, to achieve strategic results.

Enterprise search today is being stretched to its limit, according to Price. The definition has even changed, now it’s not only about searching for documents, users are searching for more data across more areas, Price said.

OpenText is hearing the following from clients:

  • Mandate to do more with less – resource pressures brought on by COVID-19
  • Uptick in workload during COVID and expected to continue over the next 12 months…
  • Increase in client demands
  • Rising volumes and new sources of data
  • Enterprise search is no longer about just finding a document(s)
  • Data security is top of mind

Gianakos explained that the law firm she works for uses enterprise search to find a variety of sources that leads to stronger results. The company uses it to find products, expertise, pricing research, and more.

“When an attorney opens up a matter for a client they don’t give a lot of detail,” she said. “We use enterprise search to connect the dots to find things related to that matter.”

Bracewell was able to move millions of types of information with its enterprise search management system, Scruggs said. They use it to gather information before going to trial, find people with the right skills, and more.

OpenText Decisiv helps to access knowledge and insights, Patton said. The platform allows users to see a universal view into integrated information from across systems. Users can gain insight beyond just searching for documents. The platform allows clients to quickly find and locate experts and prior expertise. It can also automate classification tasks.
