How Improper Document Management Inhibits Employee Productivity

New research has revealed the persistent challenges global organizations face managing information assets, with 83% of office workers admitting that they have had to re-create documents which already exist because they have been unable to find them on their corporate network. This follows a global research study commissioned by M-Files, the intelligent information management company.

The M-Files 2019 Intelligent Information Management Benchmark Report surveyed 1,500 office workers from private and public sector organizations, in order to understand their document and information handling practices and challenges in the workplace.

The findings revealed that 45% of employees find searching for documents and information challenging and time consuming; and 96% of face some sort of difficulty when looking for the most recent version of a document or file.

“Time spent looking for documents and recreating work that already exists, comes at the expense of other, more productive tasks,” said Greg Milliken, SVP of Marketing at M-Files. “Additionally, in the wake of potentially severe financial penalties for failing to comply with regulations such as GDPR, organizations need to think carefully about whether they are truly able to quickly and easily identify what content and information they have, and where.”
