DirecTV taps Cognos for BI
Business intelligence software will help digital satellite TV giant DirecTV distribute information across a wide range of business units using the Web.
The Los Angeles-based company has chosen Cognos’ e-business solution as its enterprisewide standard for business analysis and reporting.
Among other capabilities, the solution will allow DirecTV employees to identify top dealers through a Web-based scorecard designed to measure and track performance across North America. That e-business initiative will also let staff analyze dealer-related information by specific dealer, region, product sold, profitability and other dimensions for strategic decision making.
"Our rapidly growing, consumer-oriented business demands that we effectively communicate with our various distribution and enterprise units," says Robert D. Pacek, senior VP and chief information officer at DirecTV. "The business intelligence solution will enable us to optimize the use of our business data for immediate reporting and analysis across company business units."
The system can be quickly implemented, Pacek adds, allowing users to access information that is critical to business performance.
Hundreds of DirecTV employees will use the system to report on enterprisewide business activities via the Web. DirecTV also will deploy Cognos' e-Applications for sales and financial analysis.
DirecTV is the leading service provider of digital television entertainment with more than 8.5 million customers.
