Zoom acquired Onyx to broaden its AI-first communication platform

The October 23, 2026, acquisition of Onyx supports Zoom's philosophy that the most important work starts in conversations. But a conversation is only as valuable as what comes next – the decisions that get made, the actions that follow, and the knowledge that makes both possible. It enhances the ability of enterprise customers to ground decisions and agent actions in relevant organizational context.

What does Onyx do?

Founded in 2023, Onyx is an open-source AI platform for enterprise search and knowledge management.

Onyx connects to more than 50 enterprise applications – documents, wikis, ticketing systems, customer records, and more – and serves accurate, real-time context to both humans and AI agents on demand. Because it is open source and fully self-hostable, organizations with strict data sovereignty or on-premises requirements can run the entire solution on their own infrastructure.

That commitment to openness has attracted a community of more than 30,000 developers and earned the trust of enterprises worldwide, including NASA, Nebius, and Hudson River Trading, processing more than one million user queries per week.

What this means for our customers

AI can tell you almost anything about the world, but it doesn’t have the relevant perspective about your customers or your processes.

Onyx closes that gap, connecting to the broader knowledge living across your organization’s systems – policies, documentation, history, and relationships – and making it available to AI agents before they act.

And with Onyx now part of Zoom AI Services, we are bringing together two world-class AI capabilities – conversation and context – to help every organization move from conversation to completion, right within its own workflows.

Looking ahead

The Onyx team, led by co-founders Chris Weaver and Yuhong Sun, has joined Zoom. Onyx will remain a standalone platform and it will stay open source, model-agnostic, app-agnostic, and self-hostable. What’s new for Onyx will be access to Zoom’s resources, scale, and AI capabilities to build faster and serve customers even better.
