Integrating content

Open Text has introduced Livelink Doorways, which allows users to access and use content from other repositories within an enterprise.

Livelink Doorways gives companies a content integration framework that enhances collaboration by bringing together all of a company’s content, no matter where it resides, and making it available to users collaborating in Livelink. The first release of Livelink Doorways offers access to Documentum 4i and a variety of file systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX NFS and Oracle iFS. In later releases, Open Text says it expects to add connectors for Hummingbird DM and DOCS Open, Lotus Notes and Domino and other repositories, as well as provide a means for partners and customers to develop connectors to their own unique repositories.

Livelink Doorways lets users:

  • navigate, display and view renditions and attributes of documents and compound documents from other repositories, using Livelink as the single, integrated Web-based interface;

  • add and delete documents and folders from other repositories;

  • create aliases in Livelink for content from other sources, so that it can be referenced as collaboration objects in Livelink discussions, tasks, workflows, project workspaces, news channels and more;

  • attach documents from any repository to approval and review processes implemented using workflows in Livelink;

  • access content in any repository from Livelink collaborative workspaces, so that users can build out these spaces with all of the needed content, wherever it’s located; and

  • conduct cross repository searches for content from Livelink via Livelink Brokered Search.

In related Open Text news, the company has reached an acquisition agreement with Centrinity, a voice and messaging communications company. Open Text reports the goal of the action is to develop new solutions that allow customers to add e-mail and voicemail to the other types of content and information they manage in a Livelink knowledge repository.
