Fort Worth focuses on process improvement

The city of Fort Worth, Texas, is deploying a business process management solution as part of an operational efficiency initiative. Fort Worth will use Process Director from BP Logix to help meet the demands of its digitally savvy population.

Fort Worth’s goal is to accelerate response times and reduce waste as it implements a broad vision of digital, on-demand services. Departments including HR, finance, law enforcement, fire, water, and parks and recreation are partnering with IT in Phase I of the implementation, according to BP Logix.

Kevin Gunn, CTO and IT solutions director for the city, and Shaun Campbell, IT project consultant, have a vision for Fort Worth’s digital transformation that includes automating 13 major processes (including nearly 400 highly-used forms).

Gunn says, “We have an operational excellence focus within IT solutions. We are not simply taking paper forms and converting them to digital formats. We are evaluating our business processes to reduce errors, improve cycle times, reduce wait time and facilitate adoption.”

Campbell, who led the team rolling out Process Director, values the process control functionality of the solution. He has already noticed a reduction in overhead and says the entire process is significantly faster. Campbell adds, “I enjoy using the Process Timeline and use it heavily. For applications with complex timelines, lots of notifications, reminders, routing and approvals, there is nothing better.”
