Information Today, Inc. (ITI) has acquired Knowledge Asset Media (KAM) and its businesses: KMWorld magazine, conferences, trade show, Web publishing, Internet conferencing, directories and other related assets from Bill Communications (New York).

Included in the acquisition is the annual KMWorld Conference and Exposition (September 13-15, 2000, Santa Clara Convention Center).

In addition to publishing KMWorld magazine and managing this Web site, KAM publishes an industry Buyers' Guide and a directory to Microsoft NT solutions for KM. Other ventures include the the KM Industry Leadership Summit (Camden, Maine June 21-23, 2000), a gathering of thought-leading executives who are KM practitioners, analysts and developers to set the agenda for the industry.

"This team in Camden is excited to be a part of the future of the Information Today family," said KAM's founder Bruce Taylor, who continues as group president and KMWorld's editor-in chief and publisher. "This is a critical time in the evolution of KM from bleeding-edge two years ago to a mainstream enterprise concern squarely on the radar screens of Global 1000 CEOs. KMWorld is best positioned to help this market continue its explosive growth. And with ITI as our partner, we have the capability to expand our reach both in the US and globally."

ITI is the publisher of Information Today, the newspaper for users and producers of electronic online information services. The company also produces other periodicals, books, directories and online products for information users and professionals. ITI is also the organizer and sponsor of conferences for the library and information professional communities, including the National Online Meeting, Internet Librarian, Computers in Libraries, and Internet Librarian International (London).

"The whole area of knowledge management is something we've been monitoring for some time, and we were excited about this opportunity to acquire the premier publication and conference in the field," said Tom Hogan, Sr., president of ITI. "The technologies that support knowledge management initiatives have a lot in common with the products and services of the information industry. We feel we are in an ideal position to explore and promote the synergies that exist between the two communities."

The first steps in maximizing synergies between the two organizations will be expanding KMWorld's circulation to include approximately 10,000 corporate librarians and high-level data and information searchers and managers. Likewise, KMWorld will host both a KM exhibit pavilion and a three-day conference track on knowledge management, intellectual asset management and business intelligence as part of the National Online Meeting (New York Hilton and Towers, May 16-18, 2000).
