Management changes (once again) at Eastman Software

With the departure of its CEO Gerry Sutton, Eastman Software has another opportunity to redefine itself. A document imaging pioneer with roots dating back to Wang Software, Eastman Software has invested in a trio of talent. Dom LaCava, former president of PictureTel, has been named president; David Lakness, chief technology officer; and Linda Myers-Tierney, has been appointed chief marketing officer. The management change is intended to move the company beyond its strength in transaction processing tools, to the more dynamic--and potentially more lucrative--world of e-commerce and knowledge management software initiatives.

“The depth of knowledge and energy that this management team brings to Eastman Software puts the company in an ideal position to take advantage of enormous market opportunities for the Internet, knowledge management and e-business,” said Candy Obourn, senior VP of Eastman Kodak and president of its Document Imaging division.

Carl Frappaolo, industry analyst with theDelphi Group, said the announcement signals a new direction for Eastman Software."As e-commerce and e-business initiatives expand in the year 2000 and beyond, it will be important for companies to stake their intentions and claims,” Frappaolo said. “Eastman Software has strong workflow and document oriented technology that is well-suited to such initiatives.”

Lakness brings substantial product awareness with experience at Keyfile, Imagery Software and Wang Labs. Myers-Tierney is a recognized industry analyst who has written often on the subjects of e-commerce and knowledge management.
