e-motion brings knowledge management to media organizations

The definition of corporate knowledge can vary depending on what industry you're in. Healthcare organizations need to manage a different set of assets than, say, pharmaceutical companies. Media organizations live and breathe on the digital content that moves through their organization; this content is the lifeblood of their business. e-motion (Palo Alto, CA) has created a product suite that helps media organizations manage those digital assets upon which their organizations depend. The suite consists of Distributed Content Management System (DCMS) server software, CreativePartner 3 client software, and WebPartner for DCMS browser-based software for retrieval of content. The system is designed to facilitate the cataloging and utilization of media assets by allowing users to catalog, distribute, search, and retrieve content across a LAN, WAN, and the Internet. "Content management is the enabling technology of brand management, knowledge management, and media management," according to Mitchell Linden, VP of creative for the

Content Group (San Francisco). "e-motion is one of only a handful of players that truly understand this emerging market." DCMS runs on Windows NT, employs an industry-standard SQL database and Sybase's (Emeryville, CA) Adaptive Server Anywhere, and can be integrated with IBM's (Armonk, NY) Digital Library. CreativeNote software is included, for users who want to annotate graphics or video frames and share those annotations across the network. "Deploying the system globally "has not only saved time and money, but has helped us win important new accounts," said Carmine Nardis Sr., VP of Young & Rubicam's (New York) Shared Technology Services. The system "makes genuine collaboration across multiple time zones not only possible, but nearly effortless," added Geoffrey Frost, global advertising director for Nike. The system will be on display next week at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention next week in Las Vegas.
