Trio of companies join for check imaging and storage

Anacomp (Poway, CA), Smart Storage (San Jose) and Sony Electronics (San Jose) have agreed to co-develop a CD storage and retrieval solution for check imaging. The new system will incorporate Anacomp's EAS and S/EAS automated CD authoring systems, Sony's CDL-2100 and CDL-2200 CD-ROM/CD-R libraries, and Smart Storage's SmartCD management software. The combined offering is targeted at major banks, to help them rapidly locate individual check images stored on a large number of CDs. The system will provide access to 20,000 check images per CD. The deal reflects a change in how companies utilize check imaging, according to Dale Smith, Anacomp VP of electronic delivery marketing. "Storing check images on CD was once done primarily for paper reduction," he said. "But now CD is being used for bank reconciliation, fast retrieval of check information for customer inquiries, and other applications."
