Documentum Provides EDMS Solutions for German Manufacturer

A major European engineering and manufacturing firm has selected Documentum's (Pleasanton, CA) Enterprise Document Management Sustem (EDMS) for enterprise-wide document management solutions. Mannesmann Demag AG, a Duisburg, Germany-based engineering and manufacturing company, has purchased 3,000 licenses of EDMS, as well as related consulting and implementation services. Mannesmann will use the system to reduce project cycle time, provide more cost-effective production and reduce the cost of materials. The company predicts that it will cut its average project cycle time from 36 months to 24 months. That's a one-third reduction for a company that had sales of 35 billion DM in fiscal year 1996. Mannesmann is integrating EDMS with its other business applications, which include Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD and R/3. The entire implementation of these systems will enable effective company-wide management of engineering drawings, which are the foundation of Mannesmann's Web-based data exchange with its customers and subcontractors, according to Dr. Guenter Renker, VP of Mannesmann's Competence Center Knowledge Management. "They are the lifeblood of global engineering firms," he said. "They represent the knowledge of our company." The total system, once fully implemented, "will make us more efficient, consistent and competitive in all our operations."
