Xerox ScanSoft Releases OCR Toolkit

Xerox (Rochester, NY) subsidiary ScanSoft

(Peabody, MA) has unveiled the TextBridge Application Programmer Interface (API), a recognition toolkit for software developers. The TextBridge API allows developers to integrate OCR into their applications for use with scanning faxs, photocopies and other documents. The API is designed for the Microsoft Visual C and C++ development environment. In addition to improved recognition, the TextBridge API will give developers "improved accuracy, enhanced line art detection, and improved recognition of reverse text," according to ScanSoft VP Stan Swiniarski. "The new TextBridge API meets our needs, offering our users access to feature-rich, award-winning OCR technology," said Pat Martell, director of product marketing for Eastman Software (Billerica, MA). The TextBridge API basic toolkit is available immediately, and includes one year of free support.
