Excalibur Announces Video Analysis Strategy

Extending its intelligent retrieval technology to multiple media, Excalibur (Vienna, VA) has announced a strategy for delivering video analysis technology to the digital media market. The two tiered strategy is geared towards at developers to build video applications, and secondly to launch its Video Analysis Engine (VAE), a suite of applications that search, retrieve and manipulate multiple types of visual analog and digital media. Excalibur is also forming a Video Advisory Council to help guide and shape its efforts. The council, whose charter members include Sony Marketing of Japan and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television network, will also serve as the core of a beta-test group for the product. "The Video Analysis Engine and related products are a logical extension of Excalibur's unique knowledge retrieval technologies," said

Delphi Group (Boston) analyst Carl Frappaolo. "Whereas many organizations are just beginning to understand the value of incorporating not just text but also visuals and video into their corporate knowledge architectures, there are thousands of media, broadcast and entertainment outlets whose valued assets today are video."
