Providence Police Department to Use NEC's Technology

The Providence, RI police department has began installation of automatic fingerprinting technology from NEC Technologies (Itasca, IL). The department will use the NEC AFIS21 system to maintain 40,000 fingerprint records, as well as support future criminal identification needs. "Having our own database enables the department to solve more crimes from latents and enhances our ability to utilize latent print evidence without having an identifiable suspect," said police chief Urbano Prignano.
