QMS cuts loose its IMS business unit

QMS (Mobile, AL, http://www.qmsinc.com), in an effort to refocus on its core business, has reorganized its Image Management Systems (IMS) business unit as an independent corporation. The new company, Alto Imaging Technology, will continue to develop document management and complete imaging systems. QMS will own 20% of the new company, which will perform occasional development work for QMS, and will be a VAR for QMS print systems and related technologies. "With the formation of Alto Imaging, the achievements of this group are preserved and their work will continue to go forward," said QMS COO Charles Daley. "At the same time, QMS will concentrate its strengths and investments on areas of proven expertise." QMS has been looking long and hard at the efficiency and practices of its business units since posting "disappointing" Q3 '97 financial results in July.
