Speedy solution for processing

Traffic citations will be processed electronically in Florida's 67 counties after the implementation of a solution from the Information Services Group of Unisys (Blue Bell, PA, http://www.unisys.com). A $6.2 million contract has been awarded by the Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers for the installation of a Traffic Citation Accounting and Transmission System (TCATS) to assist with the annual processing of 3 million citations.

Pen-based laptop computers with embedded handwriting recognition software convert hand-printed citations to readable text, which can be printed and given to the motorist. An electronic copy is routed to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) and the appropriate county's Clerk of Courts. Each county will create a customized configuration of its on-site system, in this joining of communications and imaging technologies with mobile computing.
