JBIG gets a 60-ppm boost

The alliance of vendors supporting the JBIG compression standard has gained the endorsement of Advanced Technolgies International (ATI, Milpitas, CA).

ATI is already offering JBIG compression on its high-speed laser printers. Bob Garrido, ATI VP, commented, "As document imaging continues to affect every aspect of business, this becomes the ideal time to provide solutions like JBIG."

The JBIG standard boasts data compression that is superior to the present Group IV standard. File sizes are 20% smaller than comparable Group IV files and offer improved image quality.

ATI, whose printers offer duplex printing at speeds up to 60 ppm, joins founding members Bell & Howell, Cornerstone, Fujitsu, Lotus, Symantec, TMSSequoia, Viewstar and Xionics.
