Essential for children

A non-profit child sponsorship organization is using enterprise data integration software to improve its marketing efforts to maximize charitable contributions.

Children International is using Ascential’s Enterprise Integration Suite to gain insight into the demographics of donors and sponsors.

"As a nonprofit organization, Children International relies on the generosity of its donors and sponsors to maintain our operations and achieve our mission of helping children who live in dire poverty," says Matt Crouch, data warehouse manager for Children International. "It's critical for us to maximize our marketing outreach by understanding and optimizing the impact of every dollar spent. With this solution, we're able to cull and use information we couldn't previously access. As a result, our charitable contributions have risen substantially over the last year."

In deploying the new system, Children International wanted to replace its original contribution tracking system with a scalable, centralized data warehouse for all donor, sponsor and contribution information. That information includes identification of programs that generated contributions and profiles of individual donors and sponsors. The organization is using the new system to access, cleanse and move data from the existing tracking system to the new data warehouse, where it is available to the marketing team.

In the future, Children International plans to augment that data by capturing donor and sponsor information submitted through an interactive Web site and automatically feeding it into the data warehouse.

The sponsorship program aids children in nine countries including Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, the Philippines and the United States.
