The Value of Knowledge Puzzles

Video produced by Steve Nathans-Kelly

Cynthia Young, CJ Young Consulting Founder and CEO, explained what knowledge puzzles are, and discussed the benefits of gamification in business process management during her presentation at KMWorld Connect 2020.

Knowledge puzzles require people to think and human thought to solve, she explained. Individuals or teams are typically invovled. When working with  teams coordination in an organization is required to solve those hard problems whether it's internal, the company, or for a customer.

"We look at them being incentivized and there's different ways to incentivize," said Young. "In the business process management, you've seen it called  gamefication. And one of the examples that's given here by Investopedia is a frequent flyer reward system. When you're picking out your flight, you know, you are looking at where you have the most points where you can upgrade. Well, the organization is actually playing a game with you. They are using you to get more dollars based on your preferences and how you can use those points."

For problem solving, organizations need to do the same thing, they have to have some sort of incentive for all parties involved in order to forever process better, or for it to work for your organization and to get those those dollars coming in or to problem solve, Young said.

"You know, activities are fun. So it supports your cognitive growth," said Young. "You want to teach everybody how to problem solve within the constraints of what you're working with."
