Storage Technology presents TimberWolf

Storage Technology (Louisville, CO) is previewing its new, low-end TimberWolf

library, which will be available later this quarter. The library's key focus is to provide an upgrade path for customers to expand as their storage needs change.

The new TimberWolf 9470 family can house between 326 and 494 cartridges--either TimberLine or RedWood tapes--for a capacity of 400 GBs up to 25 terabytes. Users can attach up to six libraries using StorageTek's robotic pass-through capability that enables tapes to be transferred between libraries. A six-library configuration can hold up to 3,000 cartridges.

StorageTek has traditionally served the needs of companies that are using high-end applications requiring massive amounts of storage and fast response time. The new library is designed for smaller, centralized units, with the assurance that they can expand. The 9740 library sports a smaller footprint design to help with space constraints.

It will be sold through the same channels as StorageTek's existing TimberWolf 9710 and 9714 libraries. Pricing depends on configuration and begins in the $70,000 range, and the new library can be ordered now.
