SMS, Smart Storage team for E-mail Storage

Smart Storage and SMS Data Products are teaming up to offer a CD archiving system for E-mail records that complies with federal regulations. Smart Storage is currently building software to work with SMS' @CD-Rkive storage solution, which uses Smart Storage and Sony hardware. The combined solution will be designed specifically to store electronic files on CD-R, per a 1997 court order mandating the archival of federal records in their original form including E-mail.

The system creates "an electronic equivalent to existing paper document flow," allowing users to "simply categorize and forward mail for archiving to the @CD-Rkive system," according to Smart Storage president Gary Brach. "The system incorporates the high-capacity, low-cost benefits of CD-R jukeboxes, providing records managers with a structured storage solution for categorizing and archiving E-mail."

SMS VP Joe Grajewski believes that records managers will now have a system "that works the way they do, allowing them to be fully compliant with E-mail archiving requirements without breaking the bank."

SMS' @CD-Rkive will be available in Q3 '98 for the Windows NT platform; pricing will begin at under $5,000.
