How to Choose the Right Intranet Platform

Sara Teitelman, Ideal State co-founder and principal, detailed a deliberate, two-step process for selecting the intranet platform best suited to the organizations needs during her presentation at KMWorld Connect 2020.

"Once you are at the stage where you really have that thorough understanding of what you're trying to deliver, you can start narrowing the field and making sense of the ever increasing landscape of internet tools," she said.

There are many types of intranet platforms but Teitelman stressed that companies should clarify the must haves versus the nice to haves to figure out the specific flavor of functionality for key use cases.

The organization should create an intranet team that looks at the wider landscape of technology and whittles it down to 3 or 5 top choices, she recommended. 

"I think the important thing is once you've vetted these different options, you want to drive some very targeted demonstrations for your key stakeholders," she said. "What we like to do is actually give each software company a very specific script that walks through the use cases that are the highest priority for the client. Then they will hit all those same notes for the people who may not be as well versed in technology and really do an apples to apples comparison. "
