Branching into collaboration

Plumtree Software has introduced the Enterprise Class Gadget Suite for Lotus, which is described as a collection of Web services that integrate the most valuable capabilities from Lotus Sametime and Lotus QuickPlace into the Plumtree Corporate Portal.

The gadget suite allows portal users to share documents, schedule projects and send instant messages within the same environment they use to interact with information and applications from across the enterprise, says Plumtree. The company also offers native collaboration capabilities through its Collaboration Server.

Plumtree explains that its Web services gadgets are portal components that integrate services from enterprise applications and Internet sites into the portal. The products are developed in conjunction with customers, beta- and scale-tested as well as internationalized. They are sold and supported as separate products. The Sametime gadget offers portal users instant messaging capabilities, including online presence indication, buddy-list management and real-time communication.

The Web service for QuickPlace displays a list of all QuickPlace workspaces to which a user belongs. Plumtree explains that users enter a QuickPlace from the portal, where they can collaborate through documents and discussions and manage calendars and task lists. Portal users can select different views to display discussions, documents and folders, calendars and tasks, and they can create new items. Plumtree allows users to set priorities on documents from within the portal.
