Best Practices for Using AI for Future KM Programs

AI technology is destined to change this world beyond our current imagination, even in a world that is creating tons of new knowledge every second. The rate of new knowledge creation has never been seen before and will increase exponentially with time.

When datasets are too large and decision nodes are many, human brains require AI to help make the best decisions. AI can uncover the unknown and empower people to make right decisions.

Onkar Chanel, Global KM Lead, Red Hat Inc., discussed how to utilize AI for future KM programs during his KMWorld 2018, “AI For Next Gen KM Programs.”

The 22nd KMWorld conference is co-located with Taxonomy Boot Camp 2018Enterprise Search & DiscoveryText Analytics Forum ’18, and Office 365 Symposium.

AI can help accomplish KM goals such as:

  • Connect right person with right knowledge at right time
  • Enable associates to apply provided knowledge
  • Harvest created knowledge
  • Maintain and upgrade available knowledge

AI can be used for classification, integrate content with business processes, and can assist with deep based modeling, Chanel said.

Benefits include:

  • Empower associates to make right decisions
  • Consistent delivery quality
  • Simplify process change management
  • Serve best content
  • Simplify content management

Even though AI can be a useful assistant, there are certain occasions that the tool should be utilized, Chanel explained.

Knowledge managers can tap into AI for:

  • Large and / or unstructured data sets
  • Many information sources
  • Rapid changing knowledge
  • Push unknown knowledge
  • Uncover the unknown

KM World 2019 will be held November 5-7, 2019 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC, with pre-conference workshops on November 4.
