Multilateral BI supports Dutch institute’s growth

The Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI – AVL) has deployed a business intelligence (BI) solution to optimize internal processes and to reduce operational costs.

The NKI – AVL, which includes a cancer research center and an oncologic hospital, collaborates with national and foreign hospitals and laboratories in the fight against cancer. It started an expansion program this year, with the ultimate goal of growing 45 percent within the next 10 years. To measure efficiency targets and gain better insight into costs, the institute decided to implement a reporting and analysis solution.

After a pilot project, the institute selected Information Builders’ WebFOCUS software. The BI platform will be used first to gain insight into production and financial information from NKI – AVL’s SAP and ChipSoft systems. In the next phase, all the research data from the NKI – AVL will be extracted as well, according to a press release from Information Builders.

Michel Glintmeijer, head of information and financial services at the NKI – AVL, says, “WebFOCUS is a multilateral platform. Many other BI solutions mainly focus on finance, while with this platform, we are perfectly able to extract and share our healthcare and research information as well. We used to connect SAP and ChipSoft through Excel, but now we can rely on one reporting tool for all systems. We gain much more insight in a much shorter time frame. Ultimately we set up a data warehouse and will start with forecasting based on scenario analytics.”
