Booking travel online becomes more agile

An online travel agency in the Netherlands is using a business rules engine to improve the quality of its online booking and payment system. D-reizen is using the Business Rules Management System (BRMS) from Corticon.

A redesign of the travel company’s booking system revealed that a business rules platform could help achieve a higher level of custom service. D-reizen was looking specifically for a flexible application that could quickly adapt to changing business requirements. It also wanted to be involved in designing and maintaining the system.

After evaluating different solutions, the travel agency decided that Corticon’s model-driven approach best met its needs, according to a news release from Corticon. Its Studio rules authoring metaphor provides an intuitive, Excel-like environment powerful enough to capture the most complex logic, Corticon says. After testing the system, D-reizen concluded that implementing the solution would result in an increase in flexibility, an improvement in time to market, and a decrease in maintenance costs and total cost of ownership.

Hans Opdam of D-reizen says, “Corticon provides our business teams with the ability to fully control the rules by which D-reizen operates, enabling secure, real-time online transactions that will reduce hard-copy payments. Additionally, tighter integration between customers and their payment services potentially limits fraudulent transactions.”
