Is Collaboration the Future of KM

[Transcript and video of an interview with Gordon Valla-Wenn, Principal, Building Smarter Organizations at the KMWorld 2015 conference. See the video at the bottom of this page]

Q: Is collaboration the future of KM?

A: Knowledge management needs to shift from the "store" mode--worrying about what's in documents, what's in databases. We really need to focus on people-to-people connecting, finding each other conversations, and finding ways to work together.

It's not the future of KM; it really is the heart of KM. It's what 80% of the program should be focused on: people connecting and having those conversations and finding ideas and questions and issues to work on together.

We live in a volatile, uncertain, complex world. You can't rely on past thinking. You need to look at what you know, but you need to apply that in novel situations. The only way to do that is to have smart people connecting in smart ways.
