Search solution aids Wethersfield police

A Connecticut police department is using enterprise search technology to help with its accreditation process as well as its investigations. ISYS:desktop from ISYS Search Software will make it easier for investigators and staff in the Wethersfield Police Department to search databases, document repositories and desktops.

According to ISYS, its solution was chosen after police staff found it offered the features the department needed to comply with requirements of the accreditation process of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Police Chief James Cetran says, "We used to have to read through each report to find proofs of CALEA compliance. The records management system we are using now has very limited keyword search ability. ISYS is faster, easier, more reliable and highlights query terms throughout the document. It's truly an excellent timesaver."

The Wethersfield Police Department also uses the solution in investigations. It allows Boolean and proximity searches and enables investigators to search simultaneously across multiple repositories include databases and case documents. It also identifies people, organizations, locations, Web sites and e-mail addresses, providing investigators with the ability to quickly identify the "who, what and where" of a specific search, ISYS says.
