More content, more context

Stellent has released Universal Content Management 7.5, which it describes as the content management industry's first in-context metadata engine. New features include enhanced e-mail management and new digital asset management features, including multichannel image and video output, and dynamic video drill-down.

Stellent's architecture provides one content management platform that can be applied across multiple applications—including compliance and records management, multisite Web content management, partner and customer extranets, infrastructure consolidation and financial processes.

The company says users can view metadata fields in context—both metadata applicable to them at a certain point in time as well as that based on user roles, document status and a variety of other criteria. Because its system is based on one content management platform, Stellent says, customers can quickly and seamlessly apply that metadata model across multiple applications within their organizations.

With Version 7.5, Stellent folders automatically appear on the e-mail client without client software, and Stellent users can now drag and drop e-mail messages and attachments directly from their e-mail system into Stellent Content Server. The new digital asset management (DAM) capabilities automatically convert image files from a single source into a variety of formats, such as GIF and TIFF files, optimizing images for various types of consumption, such as PowerPoint presentations and Web sites while managing all of the renditions as a single object, says Stellent. Version 7.5 also offers similar conversion capabilities for video files as well as the ability to drill down into particular scenes in a video using storyboards.

Other features in Universal Content Management 7.5 include:

  • new desktop integration that provides a common interface for users desiring richer functionality than that exposed in Web interfaces, WebDAV or e-mail server integrations;
  • collaboration project dashboards;
  • integrated imaging and business process management capabilities;
  • a configuration migration utility;
  • "My View" search results;
  • digital signatures; and
  • Fast Search & Transfer integration.

Stellent has also released Version 7.5 of its Sarbanes-Oxley Solution, which focuses on customer-driven enhancements developed to speed implementations, increase ease-of-use and augment reporting capabilities, the company reports.
