Enterprise Search

We are surrounded by knowledge, bombarded by information, and inundated with data. Scarcity of knowledge, information, and data is not our problem. We have an abundance. Sifting through it all to find the useful, valuable, and actionable bits is the problem. It reminds me of the Ancient Mariner's complaint of "Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink." The answer lies in a modern knowledge management (KM) system, infused with AI, that can guide agents (and customers in the case of self-service) to the answer needle in a haystack of content and through customer conversations. Modern AI-infused KM also addresses all the other issues mentioned earlier: explosion of and constant changes to information, increasing query complexity, next-gen attention span, "all-gen" forgetting curve, "guided" lifestyle, and legacy customer service and knowledge tools. No organization is exempt from the increasing pressure to innovate and digitally transform its processes. The taxi industry, for example, learned this the hard way.Ridesharing startup apps like Uber and Lyft rose up seemingly overnight, flouting any regulations while state and local governments rushed to create them. The regulations did eventually come for the apps, but it was too late for taxis - consumer behavior was the changed for good. Now, urban-dwellers want to order rides from their phones and skip the manual payment process altogether, something taxis never were and still aren't equipped to offer. Posted July 12, 2018

As a foundational technology, text analytics has a lot of versatility, but its broad potential use can make it difficult to explain to prospective users. Whatever a company's pain point, chances are that text analytics can be part of the solution, and there is plenty of room for growth, both across different industry verticals and horizontally within an organization. Let's delve into the four key capabilities that enable organizations to be information-driven. Posted May 01, 2018

Being called information-driven strikes me as one of the most complimentary things I could be called. I may actually be in love with that phrase. I've been infatuated with information since I was young. Looking back, I must have been a real pest, always asking my parents "why." Perhaps that's the reason they bought a set of encyclopedias—yes, those heavy print volumes, not the Wikipedia of today. At the time, I thought that all information was contained between the covers of those heavy books, supplemented by more recent information gleaned from newspapers and television news. Knowledge management, at its essence, collects, catalogs, and curates data in order to make it usable to an organization. Today's knowledge workers expect more. They expect both raw data and analytics—scratch that—answers at their fingertips. They expect automation to eliminate repetitive tasks and streamline workflows. Some key technologies and techniques are required to implement these advanced capabilities including effective search, scalable storage, and powerful AI. Posted April 27, 2018

Recently, we spoke with a head of customer service at a US-based manufacturing company. He relayed how he periodically reviews recordings of support calls, to understand where coaching is needed, or improvements can be made in the process. He shared how incredibly frustrated he was that in most cases, 80% of the call time is actually silence. Silence, while the agent searches for the right answer to solve the problem, and the customer waits. What shocked us was the estimated cost of that silence-thousands of dollars per day; millions of dollars per year. Imagine if that answer could be found 1 minute faster-or even 10? The savings for a team of 100 agents in 1 year could amount to over a million dollars. Posted April 27, 2018

Even if patients are generally aware of clinical trials, where do they learn more details about them? The commonly accepted place where the information is kept is in government registries such as clinicaltrials.gov. Surveys have shown patients trust them the most. "They start digging there, but often they do not find information that is pertinent or understandable," Moreira says, "and they start losing interest and all the work around awareness goes down the drain."
