Xillio Merges Tooling and Expertise in File Share Analysis Package

Xillio, provider of the Content ETL Platform, which helps organizations solve challenges with fragmented content repositories, has announced its File Share Analysis Package. The package contains a combination of standardized analysis scripts and ECM expertise that system integrators and information specialists can use to improve their information management strategies to enhance user productivity and reduce storage costs.

According to Xillio, a key feature of the package is the speed of the file share connector which allows data to be extracted from file shares so that various analyses can be performed, providing insight, for example, into the number of files by extension type, duplicate files and folders, and better understanding of the quality of the metadata. These results are then presented by Xillio or its partners in a workshop, after which decisions can be made about what to do with the content as far as clean-up, deduplication, enhancement, and creation of new versions,

Xillio says the package addresses a key problem with regard to file systems - the large volume of ROT (redundant, obsolete, and trivial) content that causes difficulties for end users in finding documents. The company contends that at many companies, data management complications are also compounded by poor insight into the presence of sensitive data, coupled with the rising costs for storage and network management. Because of these issues, it says, the analysis from the File Share Analysis Package can play a key role in the migration process from file shares to a document management system or collaboration environment such as SharePoint.
