Xerox unveils strategy for knowledge-sharing future

Xerox has unveiled the first elements of its new knowledge-enabling strategy, with products and services aimed at helping workers share documented knowledge wherever they may be.

Xerox also took the wraps off a Knowledge Sharing Portfolio, a collection of products for keeping workers connected to the corporate knowledgebase. The Knowledge-Sharing portfolio is part of Xerox's new Global Industry Solutions strategy, which will provide consulting services, hardware, and software to companies in document-dependent industries like financial services, manufacturing, graphic arts and the public sector.

The portfolio includes askOnce, a single interface for searching and retrieving information from internal or external sources; MobileDoc, a tool to give mobile workers access to documents via smart phones, two-way pagers and PDAs; and EcoWorx, a Documentum-based document management solution for managing environmental health and ISO standards compliance.

Xerox also launched High Impact Custom Catalogs, a system for creating, producing and distributing catalogs targeted at specific customers, and Xerox Connect Distributed Learning, a Web-based training system that lets users access an organization's training resources through a single point of entry.

The knowledge-sharing ethic embodied in the Global Industry Solutions portfolio represents "an immense opportunity for Xerox," according to Rick Thoman, Xerox president and CEO, and may account for half of the company's overall revenue within ten years
