X marks the search

X1 Technologies has announced the enterprise version of its desktop search software, which is designed to provide a comprehensive view of both user-managed and corporate-managed information assets through a solution sanctioned and managed by IT.

X1 Enterprise Edition combines the X1 Desktop Search interface with integrated network content connectors, the company says, adding that this IT-managed approach preserves control and security of data and allows users to find information within the guidelines of existing company privacy and security policies.

X1 reports the Content Connectors enable users to interact with the core functionality of underlying applications, such as finding data in shared file folders, e-mail messages, attachments and contacts from both locally cached and server-hosted e-mail systems, including Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Qualcomm Eudora, Netscape Mail and Lotus Notes/Domino. With server-side, centralized indexing, says the company, the X1 architecture is optimized for large networks, ensuring no network performance degradation occurs since indexes are created where the data resides. S1 Enterprise Edition also allows users to preview search results even if the original application doesn't reside on their computers.
